Hello Uncle T, I am a 27-year-old woman who lives with both my parents in Alberton and I can’t believe I am going through a problem that I only thought happens in movies. My father does not want to accept my boyfriend because he’s from a poor background and little does he know the sacrifices this guy made for me.
To be honest, my father does not want to accept this guy because he already wants me to marry his friend’s son who is a lawyer, as if I’m interested in him. I have told my father numerous times that I am only interested in my boyfriend regardless of his background, however, he recently pushed me into a corner when he told me to choose between him and my bf.

I feel that it is silly for your father to make you choose between him and your boyfriend. Obviously, he comes first in everything because he is your father, but in this case, he needs to understand that you are a grown up now and you can make your own decisions. It is only normal for fathers to be overprotective towards their daughters, but sometimes we need to make them understand that it is safe for them to let another man step into their shoes for a while.
I can’t advice you to choose between them, but I strongly advise you to start creating a bond between them. If you can see the goodness in your boyfriend, then clearly your father can too. So my suggestion to you is; hook them up every once in a while, ask your father to give him a chance to get to know him, and then take it from there.
If that doesn’t work out, then it is up to you to choose if you will let go of this guy just because your father said so, or you will take the risk to be with him in the midst of your father’s thoughts about him. Cheers!
