In a pretty shock announcement, Darren “Whackhead” Simpson has announced that he is leaving the breakfast show slot on 947. After taking the reins of the Breakfast Xpress show seven years ago, Whackhead says he is content with what he’s achieved. “I set myself goals when I took over this show in 2010 and I believe that I have achieved everything,” he reportedly said.

As committed as he was to his 6-9am slot, getting up at 4am every morning starts to take its toll after so many years. “The show comes with a lot of responsibility and I went up and told management that something has got to change,” he said of the show’s demands.

In case you’re worried, he isn’t planning on leaving 947 just yet. “There was a lot of backwards and forwards and this show will be moving to the afternoon. I’ll be able to tuck my kids in at night. For a family man, the afternoon drive is the best option.”
