While South Africans were busy enjoying a night of peaceful sleep, President Jacob Zuma was wide-awake making radical changes within the cabinet. By dawn, word was out on twitter streets that Pravin Gordhan has been axed and the new Finance Minister is Malusi Gigaba!
Since Mzansi has no chill, the former home affairs minister was given a very meme-fied welcome as the new Finance Minister of South Africa.
Although Gigaba holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and a Masters degree in Social Policy from the University of Durban-Westville, this did not stop twitter from calling him ‘’inexperienced and incompetent.’’
It is learned that Gigaba has no experience in the government’s economic cluster, while Gordhan and former finance minister Trevor Manuel had academic backgrounds in pharmacy and civil engineering, respectively.
In 2015, the former Home Affairs Minister had a tough battle of keeping his home in order after his wife, Noma, accused international fashion stylist Buhle Mkhize of wanting her husband.
Noma – who goes by the name Mrs Gigabyte on Instagram – sent messages across the world to Buhle, who immediately took to texting back and forth from her home in New York. Noma called Buhle a prostitute and declared she would not be shaken by a loser.
Tweeps are questioning Gigaba’s role as Finance Minister since he is more of a social media (Instagram) elite who spends a lot of time taking selfies in expensive clothes and hotels than he does in making constructive political decisions. Check below 🙂

Gigaba is seen as a close ally of Zuma and has jumped to the president’s defence on numerous occasions during speeches in parliament. Most notably, he defended Zuma’s comments that the ANC comes before the country – a statement Zuma made in 2015 when addressing a conference in KZN.
