Former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) leader Sindiso Magaqa has died after suffering from intense gunshot wounds. The young cadre has been remembered as a true product of the ANC and a loyal member of the organisation.
Magaqa, who was in hospital after he and two other councillors were shot 15 times and wounded in an ambush at a spaza shop in Mzimkhulu two months ago, succumbed to his injuries on Sept. 4, 2017.
Magaqa was serving as a councillor in the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal when tragedy struck.
He was suspended from his position as ANCYL secretary-general in 2011 for defying orders from senior ANC leaders.
EFF Commander, Julius Sello Malema took to Twitter to express grave sadness at the news of Magaqa’s passing, describing him as a brave and fearless fighter.
My brother and friend #SindisoMagaqa is no more, may his soul Rest In Peace. We will always miss you fearless economic freedom fighter.????? pic.twitter.com/VyWBOcLJrc
