Ntsiki Mazwai praises her sister, Thandiswa Mazwai, after global performance

Ntsiki Mazwai showered her sister Thandiswa Mazwai with praise following Thandiswa’s performance at globalFEST in New York, just ahead of Thandiswa’s highly anticipated debut on the Tiny Desk Concert. In a post celebrating her sister’s artistic integrity, Ntsiki wrote, ‘She who is not a white capital creation and has never sold out for political gigs. Integrity…’ This commendation came after Thandiswa’s captivating performance at globalFEST, held in one of North America’s most dynamic music platforms.

Thandiswa’s New York performance, captured in videos shared on attendees’ Instagram stories, showcased her regal presence at the center of the stage, leading her band and captivating the audience. After her performance, Thandiswa shared a touching comment from an audience member who described her music as a ‘sonic baptism.’

“Someone last night said my music felt like a sonic baptism to her. I love the things people say to me about my work,” said Thandiswa after the performance.

globalFEST, an acclaimed annual festival and non-profit organization, serves as a catalyst for curators, artists, and the performing arts field. Thandiswa is among the lineup of esteemed artists featured in the event.

Thandiswa, whose last album ‘Belede’ was released in 2016, is expected to release a follow-up this year titled ‘Sankofa.’ As she bids farewell to New York, Thandiswa looks forward to her performance on the Tiny Desk Concert in Washington DC.

globalFEST collaborates with NPR Music, known for its popular Tiny Desk Concerts. The online music festival, Tiny Desk Meets globalFEST, is a partnership between NPR and globalFEST. Last year’s edition was hosted by African pop star Angélique Kidjo.

Thandiswa had previously ignited excitement among her followers by announcing her performance at the NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C., a much-anticipated event.

Fans took to X to express their excitement, also sharing this moment with Nstiki.

“What I love about Thandiswa is that she stays true to herself and doing this thing for herself. She is driven by her artistry and not profits. Thats why she has remained consistent with her music. She is a true legend more like Lala Hathaway, Colin Rae Bailey.” commented @leslogang46664

“Wow wow what an experience. We’re so proud of her representing us extremely well. The elegance & flair at display is high quality & I’m wondering where she gets this from. I guess the confidence & bravery must be inherited & runs throughout the Mazwai family. [Congratulations]”, said @KelvinJ76629

“She on her own league! Just Amazing nje!”, said @Xolaningubane91
