Protests against the Pretoria Girls' High School hair policy topped headlines in South Africa this past week, rapidly gaining traction from local and international celebrities too.
On Monday, students at the school spoke out against racial segregation laws which reportedly instructed them to straighten their natural hair, stay in isolation since they seem as ‘’conspiring’’ when standing in groups, and other intolerable racial comments and actions.
This incident saw local celebs like Bokang Montjane and Samkelo Ndlovu stand in solidarity with 13-year-old Zulaikha Patel who was at the forefront of the protest.
International stars like Solange Knowles, sister to Beyonce, also took to twitter to show support to the brave Zulaikha, saying: “I think you are super rad #ZulaikhaPatel. Go on w ya baaaad self.”
