Lillian Dubes cancer mutates, and so the battle continues

Veteran actress Lillian Dube recently revealed exclusively to TVPlus Magazine that her battle with cancer is far from over.

Ever since Lillian got diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, she's been an active campaigner in creating awareness about the disease and the importance of getting early check-ups. In an exclusive and candid interview with TVPlus about her SABC2 comedy show Skwizas, Lillian spoke about her plans after the TV show wraps up production and this is where she also broke the sad news about the cancer returning.

She said: "That cancer of mine; remember I had cancer nine years ago? Then it came back last year. The first time I had a lumpectomy where they removed the lump from my right breast. The second time they had to cut the breast out which is a mastectomy."

"And recently they found out that my cancer mutates and I need to be on treatment which is expensive and you don’t get it in public hospitals. I know this because I asked my oncologist and it’s bound to cost R500 000! It’s not only the treatment that costs so much but I also have to take tablets for five years and it’s also expensive."

70-years down the line, the veteran actor still has that young fighter’ spirit in her and energy as she proudly announced that "I’m prepared for these rainy days" but she "feels for young people who haven’t had the chance to save".
